Western Equatoria State Police Commissioner Maj Gen Philip Madut Tong has announced a night curfew in Tambura town with effect from Tuesday in a search for a man alleged to have killed one person and wounded others in a nightclub.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday, Tong said the man in a military uniform stormed a nightclub on Saturday and opened fire on the patrons.
The shooting, Tong said, resulted in the death of one person and injuries to several others.
He said the curfew runs from 10pm to morning hours in order to allow the security forces to execute their hunt for the suspect.
“The incident occurred on Saturday at around 10pm and targeted the people seated at a tea section smoking Shisha.
“A man dressed in military uniform just appeared and opened fire, injuring several people, one of who later died at the hospital,” Tong narrated.
“The security on the ground decided to conduct a hunt to identify the person behind the attack and up to now, he has not been found, hence the decision to impose a curfew from 10pm to 6am,” he said.
The police boss urged the community to cooperate with the security agents to identify the culprit and appealed to them to remain calm, as the situation was now normal.
