The police in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State Sunday arrested a suspect believed to have been linked to a robbery last Saturday.
A motorcycle rider was attacked last Saturday by three armed youth about 9 miles from Tambura town and robbed of his possessions. Luckily, he escaped with stomach injuries.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Col. Edward Gbaki, the Police Chief Inspector in Tambura confirmed the arrest.
“The person who was the victim, who was wounded, managed to identify two people with their names. The information came to me that one person among them has been arrested and investigations can start,” Gbaki said.
He stressed that the police are working hard to combat crime in the area and urged residents to avoid rumors of war.
“Some people may interpret that when anything happens in Tambura people say there is war. I want to tell you there is no war in Tambura the situation is under control,” said the police officer.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Tambura County Natali Dungura claims that the robbers are citizens of Tambura.
“Those people who are doing this are not coming from anywhere but they are within Tambura. As the government is working hard to apprehend those people, we will know them,” he said.
He called on citizens to embrace peace and stop the violence.
