The Commissioner of Tambura County in South Sudan’s Tambura State has urged area citizens to prioritize agriculture to enable them sponsor children in schools.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj Tuesday, Commissioner Deriki Sasa said production has to be increased in the county in order to supply food items to other states.
The official said last month’s killing of three traders by members of the Ambororo Arab nomadic tribe on the road to the Central African Republic has discouraged citizens from cultivating in villages.
Deriki, however, urged traders to avoid plying the road even if security forces were deployed at the border to protect civilians.
Meanwhile, the commissioner said efforts are underway to improve education systems in the county and state at large this year.
According to the state education ministry, Tambura recorded a 54 percent pass rate in last year’s primary leaving examination results compared to 96 percent in the previous year.
