Communities of Tambura County in Western Equatoria State on Tuesday donated 3450 South Sudan Pounds to the state Ministry of Gender and Social Development to assist vulnerable women and children from Mundri West and Maridi.

Tambura County Commissioner Charles Babiro Gbamisi on Tuesday morning gave the money as well as clothes and salt to the state gender minister to show their solidarity with the people of Maridi and Mundri West.

He said the contribution was made by all local churches after a day of feasting and prayer for the people of Maridi and Mundri West.

Maridi and Mundri West have been affected by violence following arrival of heavily armed cattle keepers and SPLA units.

Minister of Gender Social Development Zelipha Dawa Justin thanked the community of Tambura County for the support and said they are committed to the protection of the people.

The Minister said the state government is not happy to see people suffering in the state and called on humanitarian agencies to help the people of Maridi and Mundri West.

Separately, Commissioner Babiro called upon the people to live in peace and urged his fellow commissioners in the state not to allow cattle to come into their area. He said he had already taken steps to prevent cattles from crossing Tambura to Nzara and Yambio Counties.

The commissioner called upon the government to release people arrested from Maridi and taken to Juba without notifying the county and state authorities.
