Talodi empty ‘like a ghost town’

Thousands of citizens continue to flee Talodi and surrounding villages in South Kordofan since fighting erupted on Thursday between Sudan People’s Liberation Movement north forces and the Sudanese army. ‘Talodi and the surrounding areas are completely empty like a ghost town, people continue to flee towards Al Leri’, said sources to Radio Tamazuj. They added that the majority of the newly displaced are women and children sleeping out in the open with no shelter. Others continue to escape to Abu Jabeha where they are also reportedly exposed to the elements with no shelter or aid.The director of Justice Africa Hafiz Ismail has warned of the potential humanitarian catastrophe that could unfold in South Kordofan and Blue Nile in the coming months. The office for humanitarian affairs has also estimated that 6,000 have initially fled Talodi and are living without shelter in Leri, Kalogi and Abu Jabeha. Ismail called on the army and SPLM to accept a ceasefire so that humanitarian organisations can deliver food and shelter to those affected.
