Talks between NCP and SPLM in Khartoum

Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and South Sudan’s ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Tuesday and Wednesday held two days of bilateral talks in Khartoum with the aim of signing a declaration of principles to develop joint political cooperation between the two parties.

A high-level delegation of the SPLM party was led by the acting SPLM Secretary General Jemma Nunu Kumba. Following a joint meeting, the head of NCP External Relations Sector Amira al-Fadel told reporters that the visiting SPLM delegation will meet leaders of various NCP sectors, besides the Business and Employers Federation.

For her part, Jemma Nunu Kumba, the SPLM Secretary General, said they had successful discussions with the NCP, saying their visit to Khartoum was in response to an invitation extended by the NCP party. Kumba further said the parties agreed on the need to develop a joint cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and humanitarian fields for the benefit of the two Sudans.

The plenary meeting was attended by Sadiq Muhammad Ali, who heads the Africa sector at the ruling NCP party and NCP secretary for external relations Amira al-Fadel while the SPLM side included Dr. Lual Achuek Deng Achuek, economic advisor, secretary for political relations, and secretary for foreign affairs.
