The SPLM-IO faction allied to South Sudan’s First Vice President Taban Deng Gai announced that it has identified three cantonment sites for opposition fighters in the Equatoria region.
In a press conference in Juba yesterday, Dhieu Mathok, Secretary General of the SPLM-IO faction led by Taban Deng, said that they identified Katibi area in Western Equatoria, Longri area in Eastern Equatoria and Korlini area west of Jebel Lado in Central Equatoria State.
He pointed out that the SPLA-IO soldiers who are sheltering inside the UN camp in Juba will report themselves to the Korlini site near Jebel Lado. The top opposition figure revealed that they have not yet agreed on two cantonment sites in the Bahr al Ghazal region.
Mathok, who is also minister of electricity, claimed that the security situation is stable across South Sudan after peace implementation, saying fighting will not solve any problem in the country.
“The implementation of the peace agreement is progressing and we think these new groups that are declaring war will not change anything because we tried it, “said Dhieu.
“War is very expensive, and is not a choice, they should come back and sit so that we can reach an agreement,” he added.
