Health authorities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have reported one suspected case of coronavirus in Aweil North County.
Ater Garang, a member of the area taskforce on COVID-19, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the person who works with a humanitarian organization had samples tested and taken to Juba for verification.
“We received a report on a suspected case in Gokmachar and the sample was taken to Juba for verification,” explained Ater.
He added, “The foreign humanitarian worker has been working in Gokmachar for a long period of time. I doubt if he had contact with people who visited South Sudan recently amidst the coronavirus outbreak”.
Dr. Reec Mathok Diing, the Medical Director for Aweil Civil Hospital said the suspect has been in self-isolation in Gokmachar.
“The patient was unhappy with his health status, forcing him to call the hotline 6666, which allocates COVID-19 suspects,” said Mathok.
He further said samples were taken to Juba as they await the test results.
Currently, Light Medical House and Salva Kiir Primary School are the two designated isolation centers in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
