A survey carried out by the Mother and Child Care civil society organization has found that the number of the street children in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State increased to more than 700.

The Chairwoman of the Mother and Child Care Organization, Nyanut Angok, is calling on parents to care for their kids by working hard and providing for their daily needs. She says that poverty and polygamy are the main factors that led to the abandonment of children.

“The number that we have found is 720 children. My message to the families is that they should not neglect their children. Be responsible for your child. The mother and father must provide food to the child… Children are blessings from God. You should not just leave them in the street,” she said.

Nyanut urged husbands not to keep increasing the number of their wives without considering the consequences, as this might ruin families and relationships.
