The SPLM-N appointed governor of Sudan’s Nuba Mountains region, Saeed Kajo Kumi, has appointed Juma Idriss as the new director of the Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Agency (SRRA), replacing Hammed Musa.
Atia Atroun, a senior SPLM-N official who represented the SPLM-N Secretary General at a ceremony to welcome the new SRRA director, thanked the outgoing director for the good work he did for the communities of the region and said the agency is pivotal in the survival of the people.
“The SRRA is the government body which simplifies the work of aid organizations and the communities should work with it by providing the correct data and information,” he said. “Some of the vital information needs to be collected by community leaders so NGOs can easily support the people where necessary.”
Atroun advised the new director to avoid corruption and tribalism, emphasizing that the “SRRA is the door for the NGOs.” He urged all the SRRA officials to work as a team.
For his part, outgoing SRRA Director Hammed Musa appreciated all the SPLM-N officials for attending the handover ceremony and highlighted that the agency does not implement but observes the execution of projects and relief operations.
“The work of SRRA is to collect information and data and give to the NGOs. I advise the new director to do his best, work with spirit of the teamwork, and also work with SRRA staff in the counties because they are the people who collect the right information. The SRRA has a big role play to simplify the work to the partners,” he said.
Meanwhile, Juma Idriss, the new director thanked all the government officials for gracing the function and promised to work with them to help the Nuba people.
“I assure you that I will work with all the government departments and NGOs to make sure our communities meet their needs,” he pledged.
