About 17 areas inhabited by various tribal groups, most notably the Bargad, Zaghawa, and pastoralists from the Rizeigat and Dajo tribes, agreed to peaceful coexistence across the interconnected villages during a peace forum in the Tardaan area of the Yassin locality on Thursday.
The areas witnessed armed conflicts between pastoralists and farmers at the beginning of the harvest period which claimed the lives of more than 25 people in the Yassin and Shaeria localities in East Darfur state and Bilel and Gereida in South Darfur State.
Abdul-Baqi Musa, a representative of the Zaghawa tribe, said they had gathered the people in the contact villages between South and East Darfur states in the Tardaan area to strengthen the social fabric among all the citizens in the presence of all tribal components.
He appealed to all the communities and neighbors to maintain security.
“Our citizens have no connection to the war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces and their only concern is stability in their localities,” Musa stated.
For his part, Adam Hamid, the representative of the Bargad tribe, said they gathered the citizens to inform them of the agreement of the leaders who discussed and agreed to coexist peacefully.
“Also, it was agreed that anyone who commits a crime will be held accountable for it individually, not his tribe,” he said. “This is what we have agreed upon and we do not want to talk too much, our focus should be peaceful coexistence.”
Meanwhile, Siddiq Mohammed Juda, the representative of the Rizaigat tribe, acknowledged that there were indeed many problems that occurred between the cattle keepers and farmers and the leaders met to address all conflicts.
“We want all of you to be conscious of a peaceful coexistence among our people.” he asserted.
