A delegation from the mainstream Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) met with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, in Port Sudan on Tuesday to address the nation’s current situation, particularly security concerns.
Following the meeting, Jafar Al-Sadiq Al-Mirghani, Deputy Chairman of the mainstream Democratic Unionist Party, said: “We discussed various issues, including the country’s security status, the army’s achievements, and ongoing developments.”
He continued, “Additionally, we engaged in dialogue regarding political matters encompassing diverse factions within Sudan’s political landscape.”
Al-Mirghani pointed out that General Al-Burhan’s expressed support for all political entities dedicated to the welfare of the nation and its people, as well as the stability of Sudan.
He said Al-Burhan commended the unwavering support of political parties and forces towards the armed forces in their struggle for “dignity against the insurgent Rapid Support Forces militia.”
The main faction of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is one of Sudan’s most significant political blocs, and the large Khatmiya Sufi sect.
Since April 15th, Sudan has been embroiled in military clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions, both within and outside Sudan.
Despite numerous local, regional, and international efforts to broker peace in the country, all have proven unsuccessful. The warring factions persist in trading accusations, each blaming the other for the refusal to engage in negotiations and cease hostilities.
As the conflict rages on, Sudanese citizens endure the dire consequences, facing heightened insecurity and instability, coupled with a significant breakdown in essential services.
