Head of Sudan’s ruling Sovereign Council Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan started an official visit to Libya on Monday morning.

During his visit, Al-Burhan is set to engage in discussions with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi and the Prime Minister of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh.

The agenda includes addressing bilateral relations between the two nations, exploring avenues for their enhancement, and tackling matters of mutual interest.

Accompanying Al-Burhan on the trip are Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq, the acting Foreign Minister, and Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, Director of the General Intelligence Service.

Monday’s visit comes at a time when Sudan has been mired by fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group since April 2023.

According to United Nations figures, the number of people displaced by conflict since 15 April 2023 inside and outside of Sudan has reached 8.1 million. Since mid-April 2023, ACLED has recorded about 13,900 reported fatalities in Sudan.
