The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council and de facto Sudanese ruler, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, issued a decree on Monday relieving Al-Tahir Abu Bakr Hajar, the leader of the Sudan Liberation Forces (SLF), from his position as a member of the Sovereignty Council.

The order called on the parties to the Juba Peace Agreement to nominate another member to replace Hajar.

The SLF leader became a member of the Council under the Juba Peace Agreement signed in 2020 between the transitional government and the Darfur Armed Movements.

Observers confirmed that Hajar was summarily removed from the Council because of the position he and Al-Hadi Idriss of the Sudan Liberation Movement- Transitional Council (SLM-TC) took over the weekend to maintain neutrality in the ongoing war between the army and paramilitary RSF.

Minni Minnawi who leads the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) and Jibril Ibrahim who heads the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) held a press conference last Thursday in Port Sudan at which they announced the participation of the Darfur Armed Movements in the war on the side of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF).
