Sudanese White Nile traders demand a common market with Manyo County

Sudanese herders and traders in the El Salam locality of the White Nile state have requested the authorities of Manyo County and El Salam to establish a joint market along the border.

“Traders complained about payment of the Zakat tariff for cattle in White Nile and Upper Nile states,” a source outlined.

A number of traders and pastoralists told Radio Tamazuj that the good relations between Manyo County and the El Salam locality rates back to a very long time.

A trader from the El Naeem area in White Nile, Mohamed Ali Musa, explained: “The Salam traders supply Manyo County with all essential commodities, while Manyo supplies us with gum arabic, coal and fish.” He called on the traders and pastoralists to request the local authorities to open crossing points between Al Salam and Manyo in order to simplify border trade between the two neighbouring areas.
