A Sudanese military aircraft has bombed and destroyed oilfields in Zarqa Umm Hadid, 120 kilometers east of El-Daein town of East Darfur State.
Witnesses said the Friday morning bombing also destroyed four civilian buildings in El-Daein.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj, Omdah Suleiman Mohammed Hassabo said the Sudanese army aircraft targeted civilian areas to “intimidate residents.”
Hassabo confirmed that the army aircraft dropped four explosive barrels and the first target was the government secretariat building.
He said the shelling also destroyed the Legislative Council building, the Martyr’s Organization building and the slaughterhouse building in El Daein town.
Hassabo however clarified that the buildings only suffered partial damages.
“Citizens neither stand with the army nor the Rapid Support Forces. We want citizens to live in a safe place without fear that the army or the RSF will attack us,” he said.
Omdah Dadin Dau al Beit, resident of El Daein town, condemned the attack on major facilities in the town.
He said El-Daein was a safe and stable city, adding that everyone in the Sudanese society lives there, including the displaced people who fled conflicts in other cities.
“If the army wants to attack the Rapid Support Forces, it’s location is known and is 10 kilometers away from the city,” he said.
The conflict in Sudan has pitted current military chief Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan against his former deputy and leader of the paramilitary RSF, Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, causing thousands of deaths and displacing millions.
According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), more than 7 million people have been displaced due to the conflict, and at least 13,000 have been killed.
