Sudanese traders estimate losses at 50 million SSP

Sudanese traders in South Sudan’s Malakal and Bor towns have lost at least 50 million South Sudanese pounds as a result of looting and dsectruction, one trader estimated in an interview with Radio Tamazuj.

Ahmed Awad al-Seed, a Sudanese trader who fled from Malakal, stated that the town’s grand market was fully destroyed adding that about 100 shops belonging to Sudanese merchants were completely burned to ashes and ransacked.

He estimated each shop’s loss at 500,000 pounds, adding that foreign traders of other nationalities who also lost their properties also fled the town, while Sudanese traders in Bor were also affected by the conflict.

The total number of traders affected by the ongoing conflict in South Sudan is estimated to be at least 2,000.
