The Sudanese Teachers Committee has threatened to take industrial action over the delayed salaries of the school teachers.

The Sudanese Teachers Committee has threatened to take industrial action over the delayed salaries of the school teachers.

In a press release obtained by Radio Tamazuj, the committee said the cabinet in its resolution Number 52 has directed the central bank to release the salaries of all teachers at the national and state level.

The statement added that the teachers have not received their salaries since the cabinet resolution was issued.

The committee pointed out that teachers are now appealing to people and seeking help in order to feed their hungry families, in addition to dealing with the great damage caused to the education sector due to the ongoing conflict in the country.

For his part, Sami el Bagir, the official spokesperson for the Sudan Teachers Committee said the delays in paying the salaries will lead to delays in the reopening of schools.

“We will not allow the reopening of schools until our salaries are paid”, he said. “There are other measures that we will take which we will disclose in due time.”

Teachers have not received their salaries since the outbreak of the conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 15 April.
