Sudanese security raid lawyer's office, arrest clients after dismissal of student protesters

Sudan security agents broke into the office of prominent lawyer and rights activist Nabeel Adib on Thursday and arrested several of his clients.

Adib was in a meeting with several clients regarding the dismissal of 17 Khartoum University students recently following nationwide student protests.

“Heavy armed security agents broke into my office without any permission and beat my secretary Laily Khadija and the office cleaner before beating the students and taking them to security offices,” said Adib.

He said he has informed the Sudan Bar Association about the incident and will also inform the minister of justice and chief justice.

Adib pointed that the incident is a serious attempt against the legal profession as stipulated in the international and regional laws that the justice and legal profession should be independent.
