The Sudanese National Intelligence Security Services has called on the Political Parties Council to take legal action against the opposition Umma Party whose leader recently signed an agreement with an alliance of opposition parties.

Umma Party leader Sadiq Al-Mahdi in March signed an agreement together with armed opposition movements fighting the government in the Nuba Mountains, Blue Nile and Darfur under the umbrella name Sudan Appeal. Al-Mahdi was then chosen as leader of the alliance.

In a letter addressed to the Political Parties Council and seen by Radio Tamazuj, the security agents claimed that the signing of the agreement by Umma Party is a clear indication that Umma Party supports armed opposition and is a clear violation of the political parties act.

The letter called for the immediate dissolution of Umma Party and its activities in accordance with the country’s constitution.

Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir has recently strongly threatened all armed movements fighting against the government.
