Sudan’s security forces have prevented the Independent Student’s Congress from organising a symposium inside the campus of the University of Khartoum on Monday.

The Independent Student’s Congress is a student branch of the opposition Sudanese Congress Party (SCP).

Suleiman Omar Khalifa, leading member of the SCP party, told Radio Tamazuj security agents banned their symposium organized on the Anniversary of the April Revolution at the Khartoum University.

He pointed out that the security agents also stopped leader of the SCP party Omar Al Gigeir who was invited as one of speakers in the event from entering the university campus.

The opposition figure added that the security forces arrested member of the opposition party Hana Bashir and a student called Hanin Osman.

Khalifa indicated that the opposition students had organized a political rally inside the university prompting the security forces to come and attack them.

He noted that the security used force in dispersing the rally, saying three students sustained minor injuries and that others fainted during confrontation.
