Sudanese security bans a rally by Kajbar Dam opponents

Sudanese security services have banned a rally planned by activists opposing the construction of the Kajbar dam.

The security service closed the “Mahas club” in the capital Khartoum and summoned the committee chairperson. The deputy chairperson of the Kajbar dam opponents' committee, Emad Mohamed Hamed, told Radio Tamazuj Thursday that security closed “Mahas club” where a planned rally about Kajbar and Dally dams was supposed to take place on Thursday.

Sudan’s parliament recently endorsed a framework agreement signed with Saudi Arabia to build three dams – el-Sharik, Kajbar and the Dal, despite objections from some of the local population. Four people were killed last year during a protest to oppose the construction of these dams.
