A Sudanese rights group has adopted a plan to campaign against the International Criminal Court, following an order by a South African court to arrest Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir.

The Pretoria High Court’s actions recently forced Bashir to flee South Africa before the end of the African Union Summit in order to avoid arrest.

Ibrahim Abdel Halim, head of the National Human Rights Group, said at a regular meeting of the group on Saturday in Khartoum that they decided to set up a committee to develop a plan to engage the relevant government bodies and civil society organizations to launch a media campaign to enlighten the public about what transpired in the recent African summit.

Abdel Halim further said they will be conducting meetings with government institutions for the purpose of developing a strategy aimed at persuading all African countries to pull out of the ICC.

The activists stressed the need to consolidate and strengthen links with the South African community through civil society organizations that have had a positive position towards various issues in Sudan.
