A witness in El Fula town of Sudan’s West Kordofan state said on Tuesday that fresh Sudanese government troops have passed through El Fula on their way to South Kordofan State.
The source told Radio Tamazuj that he saw about 500 pickup trucks belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a government militia recruited predominantly from Arab tribes. However, the source described the convoy as ethnically mixed.
The force is said to have crossed El Fula from the west side and headed toward South Kordofan.
South Kordofan has witnessed conflict between Sudanese government and SPLM-North since 2011, though recent months saw a lull in the fighting and fewer aerial bombardments.
Sources in West Kordofan stated that the crossing of these troops has triggered fear among citizens in El Fula, reminding them of alleged abuses perpetarted by Rapid Support Forces against civilians in Abasiya town two months ago.
