Blue Nile refugees in Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile State staged protests yesterday against Sudan’s upcoming elections.

The protesters chanted slogans and held banners against the Khartoum government led by Omar al-Bashir and accused the ruling party of forcibly displacing them from Blue Nile State and Nuba Mountains.

The refugees called on the international community to intervene by rescuing the refugees and displaced people in the Two Areas. They also called for the postponement of the elections and stoppage of war.

The protesting Blue Nile refugees presented a petition to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
