A Sudanese refugee died after drowning in a river in Southwest Maban County of South Sudan’s Northern Upper Nile on Thursday, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, the county commissioner Reuben Hani Etta said the 30-year-old man drowned while crossing the Yalu Bridge after heavy rains, but his body was found on Friday morning.
“The young man tried to cross the bridge during the rains and unfortunately he drowned,” he said.
Etta further said the county had, in the past two days, witnessed heavy rains which destroyed several houses at Yusuf Batil camp. He pointed out that there are attempts to relocate the refugees to Kaya camp.
A number of government offices were also destroyed, according to the commissioner.
