Minni Arko Minnawi, leader of a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), claimed that his forces repulsed an attack by government troops on their defensive positions near Diffra area in West Kordofan State on Tuesday.

According to a statement seen by Radio Tamazuj yesterday, the opposition group said they clashed with the pro-government militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF) near Diffra area.

The statement said the clash started when the RSF attempted to disarm the opposition forces in the area, as part of an ongoing disarmament campaign in the Kordofan and Darfur regions.

The armed group admitted to human casualties and injuries among their forces but could not give any figures. It claimed that they had captured ammunition from government troops.

Radio Tamazuj could not reach government officials in the area to comment on the matter.
