The Sudan Foreign Ministry has said that yesterday, it officially approached the Office of the Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator and the Representative of the United Nations Development Programme UNDP in Sudan on the proposal for a children’s immunisation campaign against polio in the states of Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

Foreign Affairs ministry spokesman, Ambassador Abubakar El Sadig, said the government of Sudan will take responsibility for vaccination of the children in the two regions, consider it of the utmost importance, and confirmed the government’s commitment to the matter.

He said that the government is ready to consult with the United Nations to reach an appropriate agreement on the matter of concern, and stressed “the need to take into account the agreements for Sudan's sovereignty over its territory and the government's responsibility for its citizens”.
