Sudanese president to visit West Kordofan today

Sudan’s President Omer Hassan al Bashir is expected to arrive today to al Fula town, the capital of West Kordofan state, amid criticism from some local leaders of his visit.

A senior government official who preferred not to be named told Radio Tamazuj he will only visit al-Fula and an-Nuhud in the northern part of the state, while his visit to al-Muglad town was canceled due to incomplete preparations.

Salah Hamdi, a local leader from al-Muglad, denounced the visit of al Bashir to the area, describing it as a failed visit before he even started. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Hamdi said the president planned to inaugurate development projects that have no real grassroots impact.

He said he expected the visit of al-Bashir to al Muglad was canceled due to the mockery of the people of the projects that he was expected to open in the town, citing the example of a housing project for families of ‘martyrs’ killed in war, which he said was damaged by rainfall and floods before Bashir’s visit.

Meanwhile, a source who is familiar with the educational institutions in Babanusa town in West Kordofan said the teachers’ union issued a circular to all primary and secondary schools in the area that tomorrow is a public holiday and assigned three teachers from each school to accompany the students to al-Fula town for the reception of the president.
