Sudanese politician accuses Sudanese army intelligence of arresting citizens on racial grounds

The leader of the Sudan Democratic Liberation Movement, Hasabo Mahmoud, on Saturday, accused the Sudanese Armed Forces Intelligence of targeting and killing citizens on the Madani-Sennar road on a tribal basis and arresting others in the cities of Shendi and Merowe.

In a statement to Radio Tamazuj over the weekend, Mahmoud said military intelligence operatives carried out practices that appeared to be foreign to the society such as the killing of a large number of citizens on the Sennar-Madani road on a racial basis.

“They also arrested citizens in the cities of Shendi and Meroe for belonging to tribes from Darfur and Kordofan,” he charged.

Mahmoud said the army’s behavior of arresting and killing citizens on a racial basis aims at turning the ongoing war in Sudan into a civil war.

Meanwhile, in another statement, the youth of Beni Amer and Al-Habab in eastern Sudan condemned the arrest of five young men on Thursday from inside a plastic factory in Port Sudan on a tribal basis.

The statement, a copy of which was obtained by Radio Tamazuj, said: “A group of military intelligence and a militia called the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigades raided a factory and arrested five young men for belonging to the Beni Amer and Al-Habab tribes.

“They were subjected to physical torture and racist abuse during the arrest,” the statement added.

Efforts to contact the SAF spokesperson for comment were futile.
