Sudanese police have arrested over 80 South Sudanese youth who are living as refugees in Khartoum after they went out for a social gathering during the New Year celebrations, a camp leader said.

Sudanese police have arrested over 80 South Sudanese youth who are living as refugees in Khartoum after they went out for a social gathering during the New Year celebrations, a camp leader said.

Malik Malek, a chief from the displaced camps west of Khartoum city, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that their children were arrested by police authorities after they went out of the refugee camp to celebrate the New Year.

“They were arrested when they celebrating during the New Year, so during their trip, they were all arrested by the police, we do not know their whereabouts until now,” said Malik.  

He noted that they don’t know the arrested youth’s whereabouts up till now, saying the police also didn’t tell them about the reason for their arrest.

 Khartoum accommodates thousands of South Sudanese refugees since the outbreak of civil war in 2013.
