Sudanese parliament welcomes SPLA-N ceasefire

The Foreign Affairs, Security and Defence Committee of the Sudanese National Legislative Assembly has welcomed the unilateral ceasefire declared recently by the Sudan’s People Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N).

A reliable source confirmed that the Commander in Chief of the SPLA-N General Malik Agar has initiated mutual contacts with leading figures in the Khartoum government so as to resume talks between the two sides.

Mohamed Hassan Al-Amin the chairman of the committee, applauded the decision taken by the rebels and described it as “a valuable decision”.

The Sudanese parliamentarian said that it is in the interest of the Sudanese citizens to live in peace, Amin also told reporters in Khartoum yesterday that the decision was overwhelmingly welcomed by presidency and the first Vice-President Ali Osman Taha.
