Sudanese opposition group to meet Thabo Mbeki over peace roadmap in Addis Ababa

Bakri Yusuf, member of the Sudanese Conference Party (SCP) one of the components of the “Sudan Appeal” force, said the opposition group travelled to Addis Ababa yesterday to meet with the African Union mediator Thabo Mbeki.

Bakri Yusuf, member of the Sudanese Conference Party (SCP) one of the components of the “Sudan Appeal” force, said the opposition group travelled to Addis Ababa yesterday to meet with the African Union mediator Thabo Mbeki.

Bakri confirmed that they had received the invitation letter from the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP) to discuss the singing of the African Union peace roadmap agreement in Addis Ababa today.

He pointed out that his leader Omar Al Digeer also departed to Addis Ababa yesterday evening to join the opposition group. Bakri hoped that the AUHIP mediator will meet their demands.

The opposition official hinted that the Sudan Appeal group is expected to sign the roadmap agreement. Bakri confirmed their commitment to hold a preparatory meeting attended by all groups of the Sudan Appeal.

Last March, about four groups of the opposition rejected the roadmap proposed by the African Union mediators, saying it excludes other opposition groups and omits political freedoms.

However, they agreed recently to sign it after receiving reassurance from the African Union mediator Thabo Mbeki.
