Sudanese opposition announce rally against ‘National Dialogue’

An alliance of Sudanese opposition political parties has questioned the sincerity of President Omar al-Bashir’s recently launched ‘National Dialogue’ conference and his announcements to improve political freedoms and release detainees.

In a press conference on Monday, the alliance called for a public rally in conjunction with the anniversary of the 21 October Revolution to send a message about the National Dialogue.

The opposition alliance’s spokesman Bakri Yusuf told Radio Tamazuj that they are still sticking to their position to boycott the national dialogue, saying the discussions raised at the conference are just meant for political consumption only and they will not lead to a conducive atmosphere to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

“Unfortunately, all the issues including the six points raised in the conference were meant for political consumption only, the National Congress Party wanted to pretend that it wants to discuss all the issues,” he said.

The National Dialogue’s inaugural General Assembly session was held on Saturday. The conference was boycotted by several opposition parties and armed movements.
