Refugees from the Nuba Mountains in Sudan’s South Kordofan State plan to plant fruit trees at a refugee camp in Unity State where they are living after fleeing their home areas.

The United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) in collaboration with International Rescue Committee (IRC) are assisting refugees and host community members in running a tree nursery in preparation for planting elsewhere.

More then 3000 young trees are ready for planting at the nursery in Adjoung Thok refugee camp. These include mango, lemon, guava and avocado trees.

A woman trained to work at the nursery said she hoped that after three year the trees will be producing edible fruit. She pointed out that Adjoung Thok previously had no fruit.
