Sudanese MP criticizes military operations in Blue Nile

Kumundan Jawda, an MP in Sudan’s national parliament representing Blue Nile state, has criticized the continued fighting between government forces and SPLM-North rebels in the area, calling for the inclusion of stakeholders in negotiations to end the war.

Jawda said in statement to Radio Tamazuj there are still military operations in Blue Nile in spite of President Omar al-Bashir's ceasefire declaration.

Sources in the area reported clashes in Jebel Kilqo area around 35 Km of Damazin town earlier this week. The sources confirmed hearing heavy explosions amid reports of military reinforcements in the region.

Meanwhile, other local sources have accused the Sudan Armed Forces of forcibly displacing around 3,000 people from Ardi and Tiri villages to Malong military base in Bau area.

The army is also accused of arresting some displaced people. Radio Tamazuj was unable to reach SAF for comment.

Separately, the AU urged in a final communiqué from its recent summit in Addis Ababa that the warring parties in Sudan should address the challenges facing them, whether through stopping the war in Darfur, Blue Nile and South Kordofan, or through the national dialogue process.

The AU also praised the meetings that took place in November last year between the Sudanese government and the armed movements.

The AU said the meetings addressed some important issues, including the issue of stopping the war and delivering humanitarian aid to the two regions and Darfur.
