The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate concluded a journalism development project in which 185 journalists received advanced training and financial support.

The syndicate’s social affairs secretary, Walid Al-Nour, said in a press statement after training in El Gedaref State on Tuesday that the union began a series of training courses on the protection and safety of journalists while covering conflicts and combating misleading and false news, in cooperation with the Khartoum Center for Services and Training.

Al Nour explained that the union also trained 46 journalists in Gezira State in December 2023. He added that 42 other journalists were trained in the Red Sea State.

“The workshops moved to the Nile River State and two sessions were carried out, benefiting 50 male and female journalists representing the River Nile local Radio, Television and Satellite Corporation, and newspaper and website correspondents,” he said. “The syndicate has prioritized training because it empowers journalists to compete locally and abroad amidst the current technical development.”

“Sudanese journalists working abroad should support their colleagues in the country, especially during the upcoming month of Ramadan due to the circumstances the country is going through, and most local newspapers and satellite channels have stopped working,” Al Nour added.

Meanwhile, the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Guidance in Gedaref State, Abdel Wahab Ibrahim Awad, stressed the importance of training journalists in various fields and giving them the necessary tools to perform their role in combating rumors and misleading news and combating hate speech in light of the current conditions that Sudan is experiencing.

Ibrahim praised the efforts of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate in training media professionals, paying attention to the states, spreading awareness, and developing the profession.
