The Sudanese Islamic Movement concluded its convention on Monday in Khartoum by the reelection of Al-Zubair Ahmed al-Hassan as Secretary General for a new four-year term.
The Conference elected Al-Fateh Izz al-Din al-Mansur as Chairman of the Movement’s Shura Council and Amir Al-Numan as rapporteur. Abdullah Ibrahim Faki and Halima Hasaballah were also elected as deputies to the chairman of the Shura Council.
Al-Hassan was first elected on 19 November 2012 as Secretary-General of the Sudanese Islamic Movement.
The Islamic Movement was created by Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP), following the 1999 schism with its former leader Hassam al-Turabi.
The group was established to exist as a parallel and broader political base to support the Islamist orientation of the NCP-led government.
