Sudan’s Minister of Interior Ismat Abdurrahman said that at least 76 people were killed by floods in 13 states, adding about 300 houses were destroyed completely and 1,000 houses collapsed partially in Kassala, North Darfur and Al-Gazira States.

Speaking to the parliamentary committee for social affairs on Wednesday, Abdurrahman admitted that the recent floods that hit the country caused a huge damage in 13 states.

Ismat, who is also head of the Civil Defense Force, said they are worried because the natural disaster is not yet contained fully in the affected areas.

But several government officials and local residents in the affected area disputed the interior minister’s report.

Yusuf Daidan, Head of West Kordofan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission, said four people were killed and 2,071 houses were destroyed partially in the state. He added that a humanitarian convoy will arrive in the area today to assist the flood-stricken people.

Meanwhile, citizens in Heiban locality in South Kordofan state said heavy rains destroyed several houses on Thursday morning. The flood victims said they were experiencing bad humanitarian conditions due to food shortages, while calling for help urgently.
