Sudanese govt, opposition begin talks on cessation of hostilities in Addis Ababa

The Sudanese government and armed groups negotiating teams on Darfur and South Kordofan and Blue Nile on Tuesday engaged in peace talks on cessation of hostilities, according to the African Union chief mediator Thabo Mbeki.

On Monday, representatives of the Darfur rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Minni Arko Minnawi, and the SPLM-North signed the African Union peace roadmap agreement.

But a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Abdel-Wahid Mohammed Nur faction (SLM) and the Sudanese Communist Party denounced the document signed in Addis Ababa. The two parties vowed to overthrow the Khartoum government.

Mohammed Diaa Al-Din, Spokesman for the Arab Socialist Baath Party, said they don’t care about the ongoing peace talks in Addis Ababa. He pointed that the political scene is likely to comprise of two antagonistic camps in Sudan.

Diaa hoped that all opposition groups who believe in regime change will unite their ranks with the people of Sudan to topple the current government.
