The Sudanese government has announced a plan to lift subsidies on all goods by next years, while promising an overall review of the salary structures and introduction of new employment opportunities across the country.

The Sudanese government has announced a plan to lift subsidies on all goods by next years, while promising an overall review of the salary structures and introduction of new employment opportunities across the country.

Addressing state ministers of finance in Khartoum, Badr al-Din Mohamed, Sudan’s National Minister of Finance, said that the government will lift subsidies on wheat, flour and all goods at the market.

He pointed out that his government will allow free importation of commodities by traders without any interference. The official promised to review the salary structures across the country in an attempt to bridge the gap.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Ibrahim Kabaj, a Sudanese economist, criticized the plan to lift subsides on essential goods in the country.

Kabaj told Radio Tamazuj that the move will cause more suffering to the people of Sudan, while accusing the government of ignoring citizen’s concerns.

The expert questioned the government’s commitment to review the structure of salaries and creation of new employment opportunities.”The government is unable to subsidize the goods, so how will it be able to increase the salaries and offer employment opportunities,?”he asked.
