The prosecution team in the ongoing hearing of the former Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Governor’s treason case on Monday presented a Sudanese forensic expert before the court.
The foreign national, Aba Yazid, produced evidence obtained from the cellphone of the accused Kuel Aguer Kuel.
Aguer was arrested in July 2021 after signing a declaration by the People’s Coalition for Civil Action (PCCA) calling for a regime change in South Sudan by way of a popular uprising.
During the hearing, Aba Yazid presented before the court evidence obtained from the Aguer’s cellphone including phone calls and messages that called for meetings.
In his cross-examination of the witness, the lead defense counsel Kiir Chol questioned the existence of any evidence alluding to the overthrow of President Salva Kiir’s government, but the witness responded by saying he does not know South Sudan laws.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing was adjourned for Thursday, Counsel Latjor Kueth Jak, Head of the Prosecution Panel said the court will mark evidence presented in a flash disc as an exhibit.
He said the next session on Thursday will be a cross-examination of the accused by the defense team.
“The sitting was adjourned to the 1st of December for the defense case to examine the accused. So, today the prosecution panel closed the prosecution case,” he added.
The South Sudanese politician signed the PCCA Declaration as a representative of the South Sudan intellectuals group. The other signatories were civil society activist Rajab Mohandis and Abraham Awolich, a renowned researcher currently in exile.
