Sudanese refugees stranded in a forest in the Amhara region of Ethiopia on Friday received financial support from Sudanese benefactors around the world to address their dire humanitarian situation.

Sarah Jaafar, a volunteer and refugee in the forest camp, confirmed that they received donations from Sudanese philanthropists and immediately started setting up three kitchens to tackle the deteriorating food situation.

“The food situation in the forest has become catastrophic due to the large number of children and patients,” Jaafar said.

She stated that upon receiving the support, they purchased essential food supplies to set up kitchens and distribute some food items to the refugees.

“We were unable to bring in large quantities of food due to the risk of confiscation by authorities,” Jaafar explained.

She thanked the well-wishers who contributed to support the Sudanese refugees stranded in the forest.

Several Sudanese artists and writers have previously issued a plea to Ethiopian President Abiy Ahmed to address the plight of the refugees stranded in the forest.
