A Sudanese court of appeal has sentenced to death student Mohammed Bagari after listening to the deceased’s family at Bahri courts complex in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
The session was called to listen to the family of the deceased to choose between blood compensation, retribution or amnesty. Mohammed Bagari, a student of economics at the University of Eastern Nile in Khartoum, was arrested last year following an outbreak of violence at the university between students affiliated to the ruling party and Darfur student’s league.
He was accused of murdering Mohammed Awad, secretary-general of the student union, during the violence between the two groups.
Bagari was held in detention centers of the national security service before being presented to the court where his trial was begun. After five session he was sentenced to five years in prison and pay compensation. However, the prosecutor appealed the judgment and the previous ruling was overturned and he was again sentenced to death.
