The Sudanese Terrorism Court headed by Judge Ali Osman issued a judicial ruling acquitting the head of the National Congress Party, Ibrahim Ghandour, and 12 other NCP leaders.
The court released 13 leaders, including Brigadier General Anas Omar, the former governor of East Darfur, Muhammad Ali Al-Jazouli, Muhammad Haj Majid, and others.
Ghandour and others were arrested in June 2020 on charges related to terrorism, planning a military coup, provoking war against the state, and money laundering.
After his release, Ibrahim Ghandour said, “This is a historic day for justice in Sudan. Many have tried to politicize and even may have thought that justice could no longer be served in our country.”
Sudanese legal expert Ahmed Sayed Ahmed told Radio Tamazuj that the ruling is not final as the prosecution could still follow other legal provisions.
