The Basic Education Certificate Exams for Sudan commenced on Saturday in Juba, where 38 students from the Sudanese community residing in South Sudan sat for their exams at the Sudanese International Dreams School. The exam bell was rung by the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan in Juba, Jamal Malik.
In a press statement following the start of the exams, Ambassador Malik extended his gratitude to the Sudanese community in South Sudan. He also thanked the government and people of South Sudan for providing the opportunity for the Sudanese community to conduct their exams in South Sudan.
Ambassador Malik expressed his appreciation to the government of Central Equatoria State for allowing the establishment of Sudanese schools in Juba. He also thanked the Sudanese International Dreams School for providing opportunities for students who fled Sudan due to the war, enabling them to continue studying the Sudanese curriculum in South Sudan.
He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Education in Sudan for their commitment to continuing education despite the ongoing conflict. “The State of River Nile in Sudan managed to send the Basic Education Certificate Exams to Juba, accompanied by the chief exam invigilator, despite the ongoing war in Sudan,” said Ambassador Malik. “I hope the exam atmosphere will be favourable for the students.”
He confirmed that secondary certificate exams, known as the Sudanese Certificate, will also commence in Juba soon. “The embassy serves as a liaison between the Sudanese schools in South Sudan and the Ministry of Education in Sudan, overseeing all relevant details since the start of exam preparations and handling official procedures with the government of South Sudan,” he added.
In a related context, Yassir Abdul Rahman Mohammed, the Director of the Sudanese International Dreams School, expressed his happiness at the successful hosting of the Basic Education Certificate Exams, calling it a significant achievement. He confirmed that 38 students sat for the exams.
Yassir extended his thanks to the Sudanese Ministry of Education and the Sudanese embassy in Juba for their efforts in ensuring the success of the students’ exams in South Sudan. He also announced that the Sudanese International Dreams School will serve as a center for the intermediate level certificate exams on July 6th, followed by the secondary certificate exams.
“There are numerous challenges, including tracking students who are constantly on the move,” he said. However, he credited the efforts of the teachers at the school for overcoming these difficulties.
Dr. Hossamuddin Osman, the head of the Sudanese community in South Sudan, stated, “This is a significant step because all those studying the Sudanese curriculum, whether from the Sudanese community or South Sudanese students who studied the Sudanese curriculum, will be able to continue their studies and sit for certification exams at various educational stages as planned.”
It is noteworthy that the exams were sent from River Nile State to South Sudan via Port Sudan.
