Sudanese security agents on Sunday confiscated the print run of Al Jarida newspaper. The reason for the move was not made clear.
Al Jarida Editor, Idris El Douma, told Radio Dabanga, “The confiscation is evidence of the erosion of fundamental freedoms, which aim at exercising economic pressure on the newspapers to suppress them.”
He said that he contacted the National Security Service to ascertain the reasons for confiscating the newspaper, but they did not explain, telling him also they have stopped the newspaper’s columnist Zuhair Al Sarraj from writing for an indefinite term.
