Sudanese army, SPLA-N trade accusations over renewed fighting in South Kordofan

Sudanese army and Sudan People’s Liberation Army-North (SPLA-N) have traded accusations over violation of ceasefire in South Kordofan state.

In a statement, SPLA-N accused the Sudanese government forces and its supporting militia of attacking its position in Mashaish area, about 38 kilometers west of Kadugli town.

Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, Spokesman of the SPLA-N rebel group, said they repulsed the government attack on their position in Mashaish area. However, he reaffirmed their commitment to respect the declared ceasefire.

For his part, Ahmed Khalifa Al Shami, Spokesman of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), said the SPLA-N on Tuesday raided Al-Mashaish area, describing the move as clear violation of the ceasefire.

Separately, a local source from Kaguli town told Radio Tamazuj that at least three wound government soldiers died at Kadugli Hospital on Wednesday. He added that other three dead bodies believed to be members of a militia group supported by the government, were taken to the hospital yesterday.

The same source accused the government and a local militia calling itself the Army of Miri of attacking Mashaish area on Tuesday, saying a MiG aircraft was seen in the area after it landed at Kadugli Airport.
