Sudanese army says they deterred RSF attack on Jebel Awliya military base

The spokesman for the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah, on Sunday denied that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had seized the army base in Jebel Awliya south of the capital Khartoum.

The spokesman for the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Brigadier General Nabil Abdallah, on Sunday denied that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had seized the army base in Jebel Awliya south of the capital Khartoum.

The RSF said on Sunday that they had taken control of SAF’s Nujoumi Air Base in the Jebel Awliya locality 45 kilometers south of Khartoum.

The official X handle of the RSF published video clips of their troops walking inside a military site containing tanks and aircraft belonging to the Sudanese army and said it was the Nujoumi Air Base in the town of Jebel Awliya.

However, SAF Spokesperson Gen. Abdallah said in a Sunday statement that the RSF tried to attack the army garrison in the Jebel Awliya area but the army completely defeated and repulsed them. The SAF mouthpiece also said that there is no truth in the RSF’s claims that they had taken control of the Al-Nujoumi base and had not even approached it.

According to Gen. Abdallah, the RSF incurred heavy losses in terms of personnel and equipment.
