Sudan VP wants stronger Darfur-Khartoum media links

The First Vice-President of Sudan ordered the country’s Information Minister to strengthen the links between media outlets in Darfur and government-controlled radio and television in Omdurman and the capital Khartoum.

The First Vice-President of Sudan ordered the country’s Information Minister to strengthen the links between media outlets in Darfur and government-controlled radio and television in Omdurman and the capital Khartoum.

Vice-President Ali Osman Taha stated “there is a need to fill a media gap in the warring areas, especially in the Darfur region. We have also intensified efforts to raise the level of awareness among citizens.” He also pointed out to the “significance of languages” on radio and TV, such as French, English, local dialects spoken in Sudan, and other African languages.

Taha was speaking during a meeting with the National Minister of Information and Director of broadcasting at the Republican Palace in Khartoum.

Minister of Information Ahmed Bilal Osman disclosed Taha focused mostly on the presence of “national media in Darfur and other conflict-affected areas in the Nuba Mountains and on acquiring money for renting satellites.”

“First Vice-President Taha confirmed the importance of improving radio and television programs across Sudan in partnership with China,” Osman was quoted as saying.
